The Virginia Agronomic Land Use Evaluation System (VALUES) combines soils with similar features into Soil Management Groups (SMG). The purpose of the grouping is to focus on common soil attributes that affect crop yields achieved under high levels of management and nutrient application but without irrigation. Soil-specific crop yield data were collected over a twelve year period. Yield trends have been established and are used to assign realistic yield goals for each of the 888 soil series identified in
