Part Art, Part Science: Evaluating Water Flux in the Vadose Zone: Computational Methods and Geostatistical Approaches.

Even a woefully incomplete review of Art Warrick’s publications would easily fill an entire session, let alone a single talk. Therefore, I have decided to limit my talk to those works of particular interest to me. I hope to put this slice of Art’s work in context with recent and future advances in soil physics. In particular, I will focus on three things: the disappearing art of thinking like a mathematician; the power and utility of analytical solutions; and the future of hydrologic measurement. Finally, I will give my impressions of the symbiotic relationship between Art’s scientific and nonscientific activities.
