Experiential Learning: Development of a Guide to Campus Trees Using Geographic Information Systems (GPS and GIS).

Indi Braden, James McCrimmon, Brandon Buerck, Todd Landewee, and Brandon Petzoldt.

Experiential learning is imperative for students at Southeast Missouri State University. The university is constantly working on improvement projects for campus. Students and faculty members worked cooperatively to create a guide to campus trees. Building, parking lots, roads, and tree locations were recorded using a global positioning system (GPS). Data were translated into a geographical information system (GIS). Maps were created of various tree species across campus. Final maps will be used by the admissions office to create a walking tour guide brochures for campus visitors.
