Corn Seed Planting Orientation and Plant Population Influence on Physiological Responses and Grain Yield.

Steven Paszkiewicz, David Ellerman, and Kirk Schrader.

Objective was to determine physiological and grain yield response of a corn (Zea mays L.) hybrid when seed orientation is controlled at planting time. Three seed orientations were used: parallel to row direction, perpendicular to row direction and randomly planted seed. All seed orientations were planted at 18,000, 36,000, 54,000, 72,000 and 90,000 plants acre-1. Grain yield, stalk lodging, root lodging, GDU's to 50% silk, GDU's to 50% shed, anthesis-silking interval, ear height, plant height, stalk diameter and barren plants were recorded. Results of this study will be presented.
