Research was conducted at New Mexico State University to investigate the relationship between volumetric soil moisture and water repellency at several depths of a sandy turfgrass root zone. During the summers of 2004 and 2005, water drop penetration tests (WDP) were conducted on cores taken from plots that were irrigated with varying volumes of water. Data on WDP, visual quality ratings, and volumetric soil moisture will be presented and a model used to predict water repellency based on soil moisture readings will be discussed.
