Ecotypes of Kentucky bluegrass have been collected and their genetic characteristics as a turfgrass were determined. Some ecotypes out of 244 collections showed desired characteristics like proliferation and environmental tolerances to heat and drought stresses as well as high rates of apomictic seed production. Two selected ecotypes (P77, P38) and four cultivars (Unique, Challenger, Midnight, and Blue star) were tested for apomictic rates. Two hundred seeded progenies of the six genotypes were grown in pots and morphologically determined for any variation due to zygotic seed propagation. And from the leaf tissues of the variated and uniform progenies, genomic DNAs were isolated and analyzed for RAPD using Operon primers (OPB-4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 18). From morphological comparisons, the apomictic rates of P38 and P77 were 1 and 4% and those of the four cultivars were in the range of 2 to 5%. RAPD anises of those variated progenies resulted in 9 polymorphic markers with OPB-5, 7, and 8 primers, and 5 sets of SCAR markers which allow early determination of apomictic rates of hybrid populations
