This paper presents an objective model for quantifying turfgrass texture using computer vision techniques. Different image processing and analysis procedures developed as part of this objective model were applied to high-resolution digital images collected from existing National Turfgrass Evaluation Program trials (Urbana, IL) of perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass cultivars. The accuracy and consistency of texture measurements evaluated using this model will be discussed in relation to subjective texture assessment of different cultivars.
