How Much Fallow? Evaluating the Rotation Effect in Alternative Rotations at Akron Colorado: Phase 2.

Merle F. Vigil, David C. Nielsen, Joseph G. Benjamin, W. Brien Henry, Maysoon M. Mikha, and Francisco J. Calderon.

Winter wheat-summer fallow (WF) in the Central Great Plains isn't a sustainable system. Here we evaluate several alternative rotations to WF. In a previouas report we evaluated rotation benifits with winter wheat and evaluated rotation effects on corn and millet. In this report we evaluate rotation effects on pea and sunflower and we report on the value of pea and sunflower on the other rotation crops. Finally in this report we examine simple economics of several of the long term rotations and of a few theoretical rotations derived from the long term data set.
