Soil Texture Education for Students and Professionals.

Taylor Johnston, Michigan State University, 384F PSS Bldg., Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824

Students in agronomy, as well as many in civil engineering academic programs, learn to texture soils by the feel method. As time passes, alumni and others in construction and site management usually need to refresh their ability to texture soils. The Michigan State Agronomy Club has developed kits containing quantities of 11 different soil textures which can be used by agriscience teachers to teach high school students to texture soils and by professionals to "re-calibrate" their fingers to accurately determine soil textures by the feel method.
