A cellulose-based seed germination blanket was compared to both traditional forms of seeding and hydro-seeding of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) in plots with a uniform, 5% slope. Rainfall was applied to the plots at a rate of 5.0 cm / hour and runoff from the plots was collected for analysis. The seed germination blanket delayed runoff from the plots significantly compared to either of the other propagation techniques. In addition, runoff water collected from plots was significantly affected by the form of seeding. Plots established with the germination blanket had significantly reduced soil sediment, soluble P and NO3 compared to other seeding techniques.
