This presentation is part of: Teaching and Learning Roundtable

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Today's Land-Grant University.

John G. Graveel, Purdue University, Department of Agronomy, 915 W. State Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2054

The Department of Agronomy at Purdue has and continues to have a commitment to teaching in the Soil and Crop Sciences. For decades the department has maintained a core group of three soils and three crop science faculty with 70 to 80% teaching appointments. The teaching faculty is committed to the teaching-learning process. They continually develop and incorporated learner directed materials and activities such as case studies and simulations, and real world examples into their classes. They also use student generated projects to motivate students and encourage active learning. These techniques will be discussed at the CO5 teaching and learning roundtable discussion.
