Effects of Solution Chemistry and Confining Pressure on Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity of Bentonite-Sand Mixtures.

Markus Tuller and Kidane Gebrehawariat.

Pore fluid composition and confining pressure significantly affect hydraulic behavior of bentonite-sand mixtures that are commonly applied for containment of hazardous waste and other hydraulic isolation tasks. We will present recent results obtained with flexible wall permeametry and discuss effects of solution chemistry and confinement on saturated hydraulic conductivity and swelling potential of sodium and calcium saturated bentonite-sand mixtures.
